about Bozeman Family Fly Shop
The Bozeman Family Fly Shop is dedicated to making fly fishing and fly tying accessible and enjoyable for anyone who wants to get involved in the sport. One of our goals is to break down some of the barriers in place that make it difficult to get started in fly fishing. We offer affordable products, great technical advice and the area’s largest fly tying selection.
Our fly fishing and fly tying products are sold at the suggested retail price (MSRP) with no additional markups. The retail pricing you see online for rods, reels, waders, and boots will be the same as the price offered at the Bozeman Family Fly Shop. We sell Temple Fork Outfitters (TFO) Bug Launcher kits starting at just $159.95 for the kiddos that include the fly rod, reel, backing, line, leader, and the case!! We’ll even throw in some free flies to help get them started!
In addition, we carry equipment specifically designed for fly fishing women and kids to make their experience more enjoyable by using gear that fits them! Imagine that, a fly rod that fits properly in a smaller hand or waders that are cut specifically to fit your shape and size.
This is a community oriented fly shop focused on providing quality equipment and good advice as well as a link between the community and the shop. We offer some of our wall space to local artists so they can display and sell their work. The shop also features a locally tied fly selection to help support local tiers and promote their excellent work. We will sponsor events open to anglers of all ages including fly tying classes, fly fishing classes, and picnic style fishing days on local ponds and lakes.
The Bozeman Family Fly Shop offers guide services to help with your pursuit of our area's trout. Our guides pride themselves in offering a great all around experience including fantastic trout fishing and education on the region’s waters and wildlife.
The Bozeman Family Fly Shop is proud to offer high quality, affordable fly tying materials and fly fishing equipment to the region’s anglers. We work with anglers of varying levels of experience, from beginners to veteran fly fishers and tiers. The shop is focused on providing easy to comprehend instruction to all anglers including children. We strive to be a family and community oriented fly shop.
An integral part of our philosophy is to encourage anglers and future anglers to spend time in the shop. We offer a large table with some vises available anytime for folks that want to tie a few flies while they’re visiting. The shop will provide the materials free of charge to help make it easier to try fly tying. This is the way fly shops used to be, and you still find them from time to time. Now, we have one in Bozeman too!
For those people looking to learn how to tie flies so they can catch fish on their own creations, we offer basic fly tying classes during the winter months. The Bozeman Family Fly Shop also provides fly fishing classes to folks who are just trying to get started in the fantastic sport of trout fishing with a fly rod. Believe me if I can learn to do it, so can you!
All classes will be taught by knowledgeable instructors with many years of experience helping people learn about this wonderful sport. Many people believe that fly fishing is an expensive sport to get into, and it can be. A good bamboo fly rod can cost as much as $3,500.00 and high end graphite rods commonly cost $900.00. You can easily spend $600.00 on a pair of waders and another $300.00 for the boots! I promise you that anglers with a fly rod costing a fraction of those prices can catch just as many fish. In fact, with the rod building technology available today, many of the more reasonably priced rods will look and feel similar to the highest priced rods. With affordable equipment and reasonably priced classes, maybe this is the time to take that step and start fly fishing.
fish for the future
This program gets fishing rods into the hands of area youngsters who don’t have fishing equipment.
Here’s how it works:
We buy fly fishing and spinning gear at garage sales, Goodwill, etc. and get it back out there in the hands of our future anglers! If you have an old rod and reel in the corner of the garage that is not being used, please consider bringing it into the shop. We’ll clean it up, put new line on it, and then add it to our collection.
If you know a youngster who could use a rod, please help yourself to the rod and reel you think would best fit them.
These rods are free of charge, That’s it! Thanks for helping our area’s youngsters begin their fishing future!
